Many people don't know that Hawaii is a volcanic archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The island chain is southwest of the United Sates of America and is usually included in Oceania. Polynesians were first to settle Hawaii after voyaging from their Pacific ocean islands sometime about three hundred to six hundred A.D.. The islands were first visited by Europeans in about 1778 by British captain James Cook.
